‘Steel & Metallurgy’ Magazine Completes 20 Glorious Years!
Celebrates the occasion with one-day conference on survival and growth strategies for steel industry

Steel & Metallurgy magazine, one of the leading steel journals in India, has reached a milestone of 20 years of successful journey with the Indian steel industry. To mark the occasion, Steel & Metallurgy organises a conference on 26th November 2018 at The Lalit Great Eastern Hotel, Kolkata.
The one-day conference titled “Integrated & Secondary Steel Sector- Growth & Survival Strategies” seeks to discuss the challenges faced by both integrated and secondary steel producers in India and to find out solutions for the future growth. Raw materials and Technology being the theme of the conference will be given special focus among other topics.

India’s finished steel consumption is expected to reach 230 million tonnes by 2030-31 from 90 million tonnes currently, ably supported by growth in domestic demand. The industry is witnessing a wave of consolidation which presents an opportunity for the entry of foreign players into the sector with increasing investment into the sector. The National Steel Policy 2017 also encourages the sector to reach global benchmarks. India also has abundance of iron ore reserves and easy availability of low cost manpower. However, Indian steel industry has always struggled with quality of raw materials and adoption of energy efficient technologies, among other challenges.

The conference will be highly attended by Industry experts, policymakers, steel producers, technology suppliers etc. The conference will feature thought provoking panel discussion followed by interactive technical sessions and technical paper presentation.

‘Steel & Metallurgy magazine started its journey in November 1998 and has gained immense popularity in the steel fraternity ever since for its widely read monthly editions as well as for organizing many successful conferences for the steel sector.

“India used to produce around 24 million tonnes of steel when we started our journey and today India is the third largest steel producer in the world with production nearing 100 million tonnes. It’s been an exciting journey all along as we have grown with the Indian steel industry, covering the major events, success stories, crisis, and turnaround of the industry. This milestone proves our consistency and dedication towards the industry”, said Nirmalya Mukherjee, Editor & Publisher of ‘Steel & Metallurgy’ Magazine.
