National Corrosion Council of India (NCCI)
is a registered body founded in 1990. It
is functioning from the CSIR - Central Electrochemical Research Institute,
Karaikudi, Tamilnadu, a constituent laboratory of CSIR, New Delhi.
It originated as a follow up of the Tenth International Congress on
Metallic Corrosion which was held at Chennai during 1987. The objectives of the corrosion council are
ì To
stimulate the national level research in corrosion science, engineering and
technology
ì To
provide a platform in which corrosion scientists, engineers, industrialists and
academicians can meet and exchange their views and ideas
ì To
conserve materials & natural resources and also to improve operating safety
of structures and equipments
ì To
encourage the practical application of research results, particularly through
education and training
ì To
organize and conduct activities of relevance and interest to council such as
holding meetings, arranging lectures, symposia/seminars etc.
ì To
collaborate with other bodies in India and abroad pursuing similar
aims and objectives
NCCI has organized Fifteen National
Congresses on Corrosion Control at various important cities of our country like
Bangalore, Mumbai,
Chennai, New Delhi, Karaikudi, Calcutta,
Hyderabad, Kochi,
Goa, Madurai,
Vadodara, Visakhapatam and Mangalore.
This year National
Corrosion Council of India is organizing the Sixteenth National Congress on
Corrosion Control (NCCC) during 23–25 August 2012 at Confederation of Indian Industry, Suresh
Neotia Centre for Excellence, Kolkata, in collaboration with CSIR-Central
Electrochemical Research Institute Karaikudi, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., Paradip
Refinery Project, Paradip, Odisha and
Berger Paints (I) Ltd., Kolkata. Nearly 300 delegates representing various
Industrial sectors such as Oil and gas, Paint, Defence, Port trusts, Petrochemicals,
Fertilizers (both producers and users), Infrastructure Development, Nuclear,
Automobile etc., are participating in this congress. There will be special sessions on “Frontier
in Corrosion Science” and on “Anticorrosion Products”. There will be an exhibition of corrosion
control products and processes also. In
addition to the above, Eminent personalities, from various organizations and industries,
have agreed to deliver special lectures during the seminar. More than 125 technical papers will be
presented during the technical sessions especially on the topics such as Refinery
Corrosion, Automobile Corrosion, Cathodic Protection, Biocorrosion and
Marine Corrosion, Concrete Corrosion, Frontiers in Corrosion
Research, Inhibitors and Basic Aspects
of Corrosion, Surface Modification and Coatings, High Temperature Corrosion which will be followed by a special
session for Scholars.
The Sixteenth National Congress on Corrosion
Control will be inaugurated by Shri
A. Sivathanu Pillai, Distinguished Scientist & Chief Controller, Research &
Development, DRDO, Ministry of Defence, New Delhi,
Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director, Brahmos Aerospace, New Delhi. Dr.
R.K. Malhotra, Director
(R&D), Indian Oil Corpn. Ltd., Faridabad will deliver
the key note address and will declare open the exhibition, Shri M. Vijaywargiya, Executive Director – in charge, IOCL Paradip Refinery
Project, Paradip will
preside over the inaugural function.
The welcome address will be delivered by Dr. N. Palaniswamy, Chief Scientist, CSIR-Central Electrochemical
Research Institute & Chairman, NCCI,
Karaikudi. Shri
Abhijit Roy, Managing Director, Berger Paints India Ltd., Kolkata will
release the Souvenir and Prof.
Indranil Manna, Director, CSIR - CGCRI, Kolkata will release the Proceedings. Dr. Vijayamohanan K. Pillai, Director, CSIR - CECRI, Karaikudi will release the
brochure about the activities of Mandapam and Tuticorin CECRI Unit. Shri
Sandip Mitra, Senior Vice President, Berger Paints India Ltd., Kolkata will felicitate the congress. Shri S. Ravichandran, Group Product
Manager, Berger Paints India Ltd.,
Kolkata will offer the vote of thanks.
The
valedictory function shall be held on 25.8.12.Welcome address shall be delivered by Dr. Vijaymohanan K. Pillai,
Director,CSIR-CECRI, Karaikudi. Summing of the congress shall be done by Shri Asitava
Ghosh, Dy. General Manager, IOCL Paradip Refinery Project. Prof. Samir K. Brahmachari, Director General, CSIR, New Delhi
and Secretary, Department of scientific and Industrial research, GOI will give
Executive address and will preside over the valedictory function.
Shri R.K. Ghosh, Director
(Refineries) Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. shall be the Chief Guest and will deliver the Valedictory
address. Shri M. Vijaywargiya, Executive Director- in Charge, IOCL Paradip
Refinery Project will distribute momentos to Dignitaries. Concluding remarks
& Vote of Thanks shall be delivered by Dr. N. Palaniswamy, Chief Scientist,
CSIR-CECRI, Karaikudi.
There will be an open discussion on the last day where
the delegates will present their own industrial problems relating to corrosion
and its control. Further follow-up of
action needed with regard to solving industrial corrosion problems through
proper interaction with relevant institutions will be discussed. Frontier areas for further thrust will also be
identified. The three days proceedings will be summarized at the concluding
session. Three days’ conference in this
metro city is expected to bring more awareness which shall lead to considerable
saving to the Industries fulfilling the motto of NCCI “Saving through
knowledge”.
