“Veer Savarkar has been
done
great injustice”: Jagdeep Dhankar
Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal, Sri
Jagdeep Dhankar, unveiled Vikram Sampath’s book
“Savarkar: Echoes from a Forgotten Past” at the Kitab book launch session organized
by Prabha Khaitan Foundation on Saturday.
Reflecting on
the book, Sri Dhankar said, “Veer Savarkar has been done great injustice. Time
now has come when we have to believe in the nation in the sense it has been
understood for centuries. A deep reflection on Hindutva which has a totally
different connotation. Instead of demonising or eulogising someone, we should
analyse.” Commenting on Article 370, the Governor said, “Loud and clear and in
bold letters it was written as a temporary article.”
Author Vikram
Sampath said, “I prefer to write about people who have either been forgotten
like GauharJaan or vilified. The fact that Savarkar was demonized and vilified
triggered my interest. The amount of matter that is available on Veer Savarkar
in the national archives and the various archives in England, France and
Germany is huge and open to research.”
“Prabha Khaitan
Foundation is organizing this book launch series called Kitab whereby we are
providing a forum for talented writers to launch their books,” said Prabha
Khaitan Foundation, Trustee, Mr Sundeep Bhutoria.
Earlier in the
morning, author Vikram Sampath presented a copy of his book to Prime Minister
Narendra Modi in Bengaluru who complimented him for his historically-researched
work on the life of freedom-fighter and thinker, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, who
is considered to be the propounder of Hindutva philosophy.
"This morning in Bengaluru I met the bright Vikram Sampath. I
am glad that he has devoted significant time and research towards studying Veer
Savarkar. His book adds fresh dimensions towards understanding the life and
thoughts of the great Savarkar," Modi tweeted.
