`THE STATIONS OF THE CROSS’ INSTALLED AT THE SACRED HEART CHURCH IS INSPIRED BY THE FAMOUS STATIONS OF THE CROSS AT LOURDES IN FRANCE WHICH DRAWS MILLIONS OF VISITORS EACH YEAR. THE NEW ADDITION TO THE CHURCH DEPICTING CHRIST’S SACRIFICE FOR MANKIND WILL CONVEY A MESSAGE OF PEACE, PIETY AND COMPASSION TO THE VISITORS

The Sacred Heart Church of Thakurpukur, under the Baruipur diocese of Roman Catholic Order, has installed a Station of The Cross as a run up to the Easter celebrations this year. The Station of The Cross – depicting the crucifixion of Chirst - would be formally inaugurated on Sunday (April 7, 2019) by His Grace, Salvadore Lobo, Bishop of Baruipur Cathedral of Immaculate Heart of Mary, in the presence of guests and dignitaries. The Station of The Cross has been designed and curated by Church Art of Kolkata.
The  Stations of The Cross, also known as The Way of the Cross, is a depiction of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and accompanying prayers. The resurrection of Christ from the dead is celebrated as Easter - the oldest of Christian festivals.
“The Stations of The Cross reminds us of Christ’s sacrifice for mankind and  is bond to evoke piety and prayer among the devotees and visitors. The Stations of The Cross at the Sacred Heart Church Thakurpukur is inspired by the Way of the Cross at Lourdes (France) and will add to the spiritual ambiance,” said His Grace, Bishop Salvadore Lobo, Bishop of Baruipur Cathedral of Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Cardinal Charles Maung Bo of Yangon (Myanmar), President of Federation of Asian Bishop’s Conference (FABC), recently visited the Sacred Heart Church Thakurpukur and appreciated the prayerful ambiance of the Church.
“As we prepare for Eastern celebrations this year the Stations of The Cross would remind us of Jesus Christ’s supreme sacrifice and also convey a message of mercy, compassion, repentance and remembrance to the visitors and humanity at large,” said Fr. Himangshu Poti, Parish Priest of Sacred Heart Church, Thakurpukur.
The five feet high and ten feet wide Stations of The Cross is a scaled down version of The Station at the Lourdes (France). “The work of the sculptures, detailing body features, have been given a bronze finish and created for outdoor installation factoring in the vagaries of weather,” said Mr Subrata Ganguly of Church Art. Church Art earlier created The Stations of The Cross for Bandel Church.
The Sacred Heart Church Thakurpurkur comes under the Baruipur diocese. Under the leadership of Bishop Salvadore Lobo as a Good Shepherd, there has been a steady growth in the past twenty years with many different kind of developments in the diocese. Eleven new parishes were established, 8 new convents, 7 new schools and 5 new institutions of different kinds have been established.
