Kolkata to Kathmandu: Hyatt
Regency Kolkata to host ‘I Bow to The Buddha in You’- a Photography
Installation and Auction
K2K,
or Kolkata to Kathmandu, is city-based effort of goodwill that is going out for
the people of Nepal following the devastating series of earthquakes that rocked
the state. Mother and daughter duo Nisha and Anaina Malik are the minds behind
the project. K2K is a combined drive to raise funds through various means. In
this effort, they have collaborated with Oxfam International (The first Relief
agency to respond to Nepal) to help in raising funds online. The donation drive
is geared towards people from the city in specific besides targeting a national
audience. The month-long project is a
combination of online fund-raising and it will culminate in a photography exhibit
on the 2nd of July at the Hyatt Regency Kolkata in which an auction will be
held as well – all proceeds going to Oxfam.
This
five star hotel, under the leadership of Ms Britta Leick-Milde, General Manager
has come forward to host this fund raiser event for a noble cause. In a
conversation with Ms Milde, GM, Hyatt Regency Kolkata, she says, “I am very
excited to support this great event especially because Hyatt is present with a
hotel in Kathmandu. A lot of help has reached out to the people in Nepal
already but I am especially happy that the help is not stopping like for many
other natural disasters. The people from Nepal still need support and will need
more support over the coming months and years." She also added,
"Whoever is planning to visit this great country please plan it this year
- or you might want to take a piece of it home with one of the wonderful
pictures of Nisha. Hyatt Regency understands that we are here to connect
people, which were demonstrated in a wonderful way when we started to discuss
the ideas of this event around 6 weeks ago and now so many people came in and
joined hands for this wonderful cause."
K2K
has also managed to enlist the crucial support of Kolkata based corporates as
well as Multi Nationals, whose support is crucial for the cause to go a long
way in society. The event is sure to bring together the well-wishers within the
city, and send them along – from Kolkata to Kathmandu. Individual well-wishers
will be able to make their contributions online, with the added bonus that each
Calcutta donation is met with one of double amount, from somewhere else in the
world. And those who would like to acquire the moments of captured solace that
are Nisha and Anaina’s photographs themselves, shall surely be at the event on
the 2nd of July.
The
exhibition, aptly named, chronicles Nisha and Anaina’s journeys through Nepal
and their trysts with various subjects, and instances of beauty. The exhibition
follows from the set of photographs already up on their 2-year old Facebook
page – I Bow to the Buddha in You. More than being mere travelers, their
journeys to Nepal left them with a love for the land. Thus, their intention is
to host a heartfelt gathering in the city, and to translate the labor and love
behind their images into a meaningful monetary contribution toward Nepal’s
recovery. The exhibit is meant not only to display the subjects they once fell
in love with, but also to display the tragic sense of loss now embodied in the
images, and to beckon a hope for possible recovery. This sort of an effort is a
first for the city, and is endowed with a sense of excitement as well – an
excitement that is born to be able to witness the lengths to which the magic of
an idea can go. Among global events today, there are few greater or nobler
causes than that of alleviating the suffering of a beautiful country – Nepal.
To
make the evening more interesting and interactive the chefs of Hyatt Regency
Kolkata have come up with a special innovative K2K menu that will be
accompanied with live piano recital by none other than Jennifer Heemstra.
This
is a time to bond and relive life despite all odds. Come and be a part of this
special evening to be remembered….
