Xiaomi launches Redmi 5A starting at an incredible price of INR 4,999

Xiaomi became no. 1 smartphone brand in India in Q3 2017 as per IDC Q3 2017

India’s No. 1 smartphone brand, Xiaomi, today launched Redmi 5A in Kolkata, starting at INR 4,999. The Redmi 5A comes with a metallic matte finish and features a dedicated microSD card slot for storage expansion.

Xiaomi’s latest launch offers a great all-round experience for users looking for their first smartphone. Redmi 5A is powered by the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 425 quad-core processor and a dedicated microSD card slot that is expandable upto 128GB, a feature specially customized for the Indian consumer. The 2GB RAM + 16GB storage variant is priced at INR 5,999 and the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant is priced at INR 6,999. To celebrate the contribution of Mi fans that has helped the brand emerge as Number 1, Xiaomi is offering the 2GB RAM + 16GB storage variant for INR 4,999 for the first five million units. Redmi 5A will be available from 12 noon, 7 December 2017, across Flipkart, Mi.com, and Mi Home stores, followed by offline retailers including Mi Preferred Partners in the subsequent weeks.

In addition to this latest launch, Xiaomi also recently announced that it has become the number one smartphone vendor in India, as per IDC’s latest Quarterly Smartphone Tracker, Q3 2017.  With a market share of 23.5% and having shipped 9.2 million smartphones in the quarter, the company has become the fastest growing smartphone brand in India with a growth rate of nearly 300% percent year-on-year. A new report from International Data Corporation (IDC) also states that Xiaomi is the leading smartphone vendor in the top 50 Indian cities in Q3 2017.
Xiaomi’s commitment to India is a message that has been reiterated by the brand over the years, and the company recently extended this commitment further by announcing its third manufacturing plant in India in addition to the two existing units. The manufacturing unit is a dedicated Power Bank facility in partnership with Hipad Technology in Noida, Uttar Pradesh and the production capacity for the facility is nearly 7 Power Banks per minute during its operational hours.

Xiaomi has worked extensively to diversify their product portfolio, and has launched different products in the last few months to cater to different budget segments. A few of their most recent launches include:
Mi A1 launched in collaboration with Google and is Xiaomi’s first device to run on the evolved Android One program. The phone offers users a simple, pure Android user experience and is powered by a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 625 processor. Featuring a 5.5-inch 2.5D curved glass screen featuring Corning® Gorilla® Glass protection, and a 3080mAh battery, Mi A1 also boasts a dual camera configuration with wide angle and telephoto lenses used to incredible effect. The two lenses allow Mi A1 to create a depth-of-field effect that typically requires a DSLR lens to achieve, allowing the user to create photos of unparalleled clarity and colour. It also features 2X optical zoom, and retails for INR 13,999.

Following that, Xiaomi launched the Mi MIX 2 in India pioneering the trend of full screen display smartphones and redefining the way users consume content on their devices. Mi MIX 2 offers a 5.99-inch, HD full screen display packaged in beautiful ceramic back and features a four-sided curved design that transitions smoothly into the aluminum frame. Powered by a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 835 processor, Mi MIX 2 uses a Sony IMX386 sensor in its 12-megapixel camera to deliver high-performance experience. Mi MIX 2 is available in a 6GB + 128GB version in India and is priced at INR 35,999.

The Redmi Y series, which consisted of Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite was launched to enhance everyday routine and lifestyle. Redmi Y1 is Xiaomi’s first phone in India which boasts a Selfie-light, and is paired with a 16 MP front facing camera which ensures selfies come out bright and clear. At its core, Redmi Y1 features an octa-core Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 435 and features a 5.5 inch HD display with Corning® Gorilla® Glass, 13 MP f/2.0 rear camera, as well as a 3080mAh battery.Redmi Y1 is priced at INR 8999 for the 3GB RAM 32GB storage variant, and INR 10,999 for the 4GB 64GB variant. Priced at INR 6999, Redmi Y1 Lite features an octa-core Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 425 processor, along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage.

MIUI 9: Lightning fast
MIUI has over 280 million users, in 56 languages, across more than 220 regions.
With MIUI 9, Xiaomi focused on faster app launches, and a smoother UI with reduced latency. MIUI 9 also brings split screen, an improved notification dropdown, as well as icon animations, and smart photo editing featuring object removal.
The improved notification dropdown includes multiple styles, bundled app notifications, as well as quick replies right from the dropdown.
MIUI 9 also brings support for the Panchang calendar, festival cards for over 26 festivals in India, as well as Horoscope, News, Cricket News, Cricket Schedule, Football Schedule, Health and Fitness, and ‘On this Day’ information.
