The 60 year celebrations of Shri Shikshayatan School, Kolkata, that began on 3rd January, 2015, with a plethora of fun filled inter school competitions, saw the beginning of the grand finale on the 29th April, 2015. The month of January saw a variety of programmes, starting with felicitation of Staff members who completed 25 years and above being inspired by the motto Tamo sama jyotirgomaya followed by an enriching panel discussion on “Women should not be labelled as Women Achievers”. There were seven eminent panelists from different walks of life - Dr. Rima Mukherjee, Ms. Antara Acharya, Ms. Agnimitra Paul, Ms. Alokananda Roy, Ms. Helen La Fave, Dr. Kunal Sarkar, and Mr. Atri Bhattacharya.  A galore of Inter school events  were organized like – Mudra Sync, Flip Book, Street Play and De Improviso, to showcase the creative talents and critical thinking of the young minds of the city. School events like Street play, Kaleidoscope and Readers choice were events displaying multi talents.
The first day of the finale, on 29th April, began with the installation and felicitation of guest who was the Director of Alliance Francaise with his wife Laura. The Secretary general of the Foundation and School, Bratati Bhattacharyya delivered Welcome address, to encourage all the young learners, the teaching staff and appreciated the involvement of the guests. This was followed by a documentary, portraying the journey of Shri Shikshayatan over long 60 years. The Director, Guest of Honour addressed the gathering with his message which was extremely inspiring for the students. Among other eminent guest were the President, Shri S.K. Birla, Mrs. Sumangala Birla, Vice President B.K. Jhawar, Shri G.K. Khaitan, and all other Trustee members.
Imparting holistic development has always been the mission and vision of the school. Appreciating Indian culture and taking the best of the West and blending it with India’s traditional ethos, had been the essence of the programmes that followed. “Open windows to the world of Classical Ballet” – was a presentation based on the composition of the masters like, Tchaikovsky and Brahms.  It showed glimpses from renowned productions such as – “Nutcracker”, “Swan Lake” and “Giselle” – bringing out beautifully the nuances of this classical art form choreographed by Rhythmosaic – Ronnie Ghosh and Prassanna Saikia.
“Shakuntala” – based on Kalidasa’s “Abhigyanam Shakuntalam”, was the next presentation, concept by Shilpi and Sudipto Mitra. The audience moved from the delightful Western Classical music and choreography to the intrinsic traditional story and heritage of India. Such a wonder it was for all, especially the young students to have side by side, a feel of the best from the East and the West.
What everyone witnessed was an outpouring of creative brilliance and an example of an all-round development, which the school authorities and the teachers try to inculcate among all its young minds.
This has been the character of Shri Shikshayatan School and over years it has dedicated itself in academic excellence as well as ensured the development of the Spirit, Mind and Body. The school has thus grown in all dimensions to become a pre-eminent institution of the city.
The vote of Thanks was given by the Principal of the school, Indrani Ganguly.
