Announcing the opening of Salt Lake Centre from June 2015
25th May, 2015, Kolkata: Bickram Ghosh Academy of Performing Arts (BGAPA), a private institute for imparting professional training in music, dance and musical instruments, is set to expand its brand of Academy across India by setting up hundred new centres in the next few years. Plans are also on to have overseas centres in Singapore, Bangladesh and UK especially for the Indian diaspora.

The Bickram Ghosh Academy of Performing Arts (BGAPA), a division of Affinity Global Academy of Performing Arts (AGAPA), is an initiative of one of India's leading percussionists and tabla maestro, Bickram Ghosh, in association with Mr Sanjay Bhalotia of AGAPA. The Academy was started 11 months ago and currently has three centres in Kolkata with a base of over 400 students.

“It has been a very encouraging experience for us running three centres in Kolkata for the past 11 months. Now we are poised for expanding our brand across and beyond India. Through our brand of Academy, we are presenting a modern institute for learning performing arts, music and musical instruments to the young as well as the elderly. Based on the guru-shisya parampara  or tradition, one may describe our institutes as a modern gurukul for musicians and performing artistes. The idea is to provide a modern learning ambiance keeping intact the spirit of rich Indian traditions of learning and teaching. We would also reward and promote talented youngsters,” said  Bickram Ghosh.

Bickram Ghosh Academy has roped in artistes as faculty members including some who are among the biggest names in the country. Veteran Tabla Guru Pt Shankar Ghosh, Singer, Danseuse Jaya Seal Ghosh, Vocalist Kumar Mukherjee and others. The Academy would follow a similar model across India by engaging local and national talents as faculty members for teaching.

“We will have top notch names in the world of music from across the globe to visit and conduct workshops, lectures, demos and stage concerts. The students would, thereby, be offered a unique exposure to world class master musicians and professionals,” said Mr  Sanjay Bhalotia of AGAPA.

“Another unique feature of the Academy is that is has special classes for working parents and senior citizens who have music in their heart and want to pursue their heart's bidding,” said Mr Bhalotia.

The Bickram Ghosh Academy of Performing Arts offers opportunities and a platform to learn a wide range of subjects like Eastern and Western vocals, Rabindrasangeet, sitar, sarod, guitar, tabla, drums, percussions, dance (Kathak, Odissi, Bharatnatyam and other contemporary and creative dance forms). The centres across India would be equipped with modern facilities like archives, listening booths, audio-video library, air-conditioned classrooms and many other modern amenities.

All the proposed centres of the BGAPA would follow a standard format, module and modern management practices. The Academy would harness the local talents and engaged experienced professionals as faculty members.
