JUBILARE 2015 - the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations of the Shri Shikshayatan School - was flagged off here today by eminent scientist Dr. Bikash Chandra Sinha, Homi Bhabha Chair Professor, Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), at a gala inaugural function in the presence of Shri S K Birla, President, Shri B K Jhawar, Vice President of Shikshayatan Foundation, Shri G K Khaitan, Trustee member, and a host of other dignitaries and guests.

“Shikshayatan Foundation, the parent body of Shri Shikshayatan school started its journey in 1920 by Shri G D Birla and Shri J K Birla with the inauguration of a small but progressive girls' school called Marwari Balika Vidyalaya in Burrabazar. Shri Shikshayatan was established in 1954 as a girls' school. Today the acorn has grown into a mighty Oak. With a student base of more than 4000, Shri Shikshayatan has emerged as a reputed centre of learning in India. Today, lets us pledge to continue to do the good work and achieve new milestones,” said Shri S K Birla, President of Shikshayatan Foundation.

Shikshayatan Foundation had added two more prestigious institutions, Shri Shikshayatan College and Calcutta Business School, under its wings in 1955 and in 2008 respectively. “The Diamond Jubilee celebrations would be on from today the Foundation Day of Shri Shikshayatan School, and continue till 18th April, 2015,” said Bratati Bhattacharya, Secretary General, Shikshayatan Foundation, and also the secretary of the school.

Dedicated to the education of girl students by ensuring harmonious development of spirit, mind and body, Shikshayatan Foundation owes much to the untiring efforts of Late Sitaram Sekseria and Late Bhagirathmal Kanoria, two of its esteemed Trustees, who helped the school to grow into a reputed institution of academic excellence.

Apart from academic excellence, the school has excellent domains of co-curricular activities like Drama Club, basketball, Rugby, Netball, Aerobics, Karate, Dance, Wellness Club, Leadership Training Service (LTS), Interact Club, Girl Guides, Debate Club, Film & Photography Club. French has been an apart of the language curriculum of the school. The holistic growth of the students is completed with value education and environmental awareness and has been adjudged the best green school by Centre for Environment in association with Government of India, Ministry of Environment & Forest.  The School is focused on preservation of the environment and conservation of energy and uses solar energy. It also promotes road safety and sanitation campaigns. The teachers and student have collaborated with countries like UK, USA, France, Portugal, Nepal, Kazakhstan, Romania and Ukraine. An exchange programme with Bangladesh is on the anvil. Shri Shikshayatan has also been awarded the prestigious International School Award, an accreditation from the British Council, in 2009 and 2013.

Shri Shikshayatan school has undertaken projects on Global School Partnership and Connecting Classroom partnership in Conisborough College, London. Projects like `Steps Against Women Trafficking', `Fight Against Plastic' and `Safety for Women - Discrimination in India' are some key global issues that Shri Shikshayatan School has worked on with its International Partners as informed by the Principal Mrs. Indrani Ganguly

The School students have been winning prizes in Debates, Drama, Film-Making, Photography, Sudoku, Chess, Netball etc. The members of the Nature Club for have worked for sustainable development of the environment which has been highly acclaimed and recognized by the Centre of Environmental Education. As part of Community Service, School's Leadership Training Service members have collected and contributed a generous amount of funds for charitable purposes.


Shri Shikshayatan Girl Guides have been the proud recipient of the Rajya Puraskar and made meaningfully contributions to the society as leading scientists, engineers, lawyers, economist, doctors, educationists etc. Two of its alumni, Padmabhusan Dr Isher Judge Ahluwalia, Economist, and Dr Kusum Khemani, Secretary, Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad, are among many. Shri Shikshayatan has tied up with AVIVA - Save the Children initiative. Under the programme, “Each One Teach One”, girls teach under-privileged children. Students of Shri Shikshayatan are also working under the guardianship of NGOs like Hope, Smile Foundation, Udbhas and Prayas. As part of these projects, the School organizes “Children’s Day”, “Sports Day” and “Joy of Giving Week” for the not-so-fortunate children.
