GROUP SEEKS UNIVERSITY STATUS FROM THE GOVERNMENT OF WEST BENGAL WITH A POSITIVE RESPONSE


Kolkata, 2013: The Bengal College of Engineering and Technology (BCET), Durgapur, a centre of excellence for higher technical education and Biotechnology and an emerging innovation hub in Eastern India, today announced its ambitious expansion plans with the launch of its latest and new initiative - Bengal College of Polytechnic (BCP) - from the current academic session.

BCET (Bengal College of Engineering And Technology) is a part of the Durgapur-based SKS Group of Institutions (SKSgi) which has already applied to the Government for a University Status in West Bengal. The Group has an impressive portfolio of institutions of higher technology and management in West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh including an exclusive and only Women’s Engineering College (Bengal College of Engineering And Technology for Women) in West Bengal with 1500 seated girls’ hostel having 24 hrs internet (F.O. Cable) facility adjacent to the college, under secured environment.  

Announcing the launch of Polytechnic College, Mr. S.K.Sharma, Chairman, SKSgi, said, “The launch of the Polytechnic College is a part of SKSgi's major expansion plan in the field of education, especially engineering, biotechnology, pharmacy, management and scientific research and innovation. We have so far invested ` 100 Crores (approx) for creating educational infrastructure and human resource with two top quality schools. We have plans to expand the research and development (R&D) lab that has already successfully completed nationally acclaimed projects and would continue to work in advanced fields like robotics, cloud computing applications, low cost computers, biotechnology, new concept solar cells, bio ethanol from water hyacinth and waste potato, utilization of waste green house gases in Durgapur to produce Algae Bio-Mass and subsequently biodiesel and bio-fertilizer, development of rapid diagnosis tests for the enteric infectious diseases occurring through micro organisms for effective therapy and diseases management, solid waste management and so on. We would also expand our Entrepreneurship Development Cell, as we are three times national champion and two times national runners up in entrepreneurship activities. We are happy to announce that we have received National B-School Award-2012 as an Outstanding Engineering Institute (East) and this year we have been again selected for the same award by the private national electronics news channel, best UG project award of Association of Indian University in Eastern region, best pvt. management institute in West Bengal etc.

BCET is the only college in eastern India to achieve the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) for four of its courses under the new outcome-based system of Accreditation under the Washington Accord; this will inspire other engineering colleges to go for NBA Accreditation of the courses leading to better quality technical education.
SKSgi has been credited to organize successfully many mega medical camps, activities with physically challenged children, blood donation camp, village level social activities both in Mathura and Durgapur by students’ NSS wing of SKSgi.

SKS Educational and Social Trust is the parent body under which The Bengal College of Polytechnic is the latest addition to SKS Group's impressive portfolio in Durgapur namely-Bengal College of Engineering and Technology-2001, (BCET), Durgapur Institute of Management and Science-2008, (DIMS), Bengal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research, 2008, (BCPSR) and Bengal College of Engineering and Technology for Women-2009, (BCETW). The Group currently has an 8000 plus student base which is likely to expand further in the coming days.
