ICSI-EIRC Convocation
The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) organised   ICSI Convocation 2013– Eastern  Region at Kolkata

to formalize the Award of Associate and Honorary Membership of the Institute and to recognise the achievements of the students in their studie
Shri Siddhant Kaul, Director, NICCO Corporation Ltd  awarded the Associate and Honorary Membership of the Institute  to recognise the achievements of the students at  2nd  ICSI CONVOCATION – EASTERN REGION 2013

Shri Siddhant Kaul, Director, NICCO Corporation Ltd  in his CONVOCATION ADDRESS,  said that we live in a world of instant gratification and so in this world now Patience is a virtue which is very desirable, so as responsible  professional s we all need to have patience. He said that today regulatory scenarios have undergone a change and the new companies bill also brings in a lot of change.He said that the directors of a company rely on a Company Secretary for compliance and other follow up with fulfilment of regulatory requirements. He also the The Board of Directors asks a Company Secretary for advice and they expect the CS to provide good advice for the betterment of the business. He said that the new companies bill provides for CS to appear before NCLT and so  it expands the horizon of CS. He also mentioned that the board of directors of the company expects the CS to provide leadership to business and the CS in his part should push them to do the right thing  
CS SN Ananthasubramanian , President, the ICSI in Presidential Address said that , “We are entering a world that increasingly rewards individual aspiration and persistence and can measure precisely who is contributing and who is not and It is in this context that this 2nd ICSI Annual Convocation-2013 is being held . He advised that , each of the students should  consider investing  in oneself so as to witness the transformation which will happen in each one. 

He said that “before  starting  investing in oneself , a SAP-Self Awareness Program to identify traits, angularities, sweet-spots, strengths etc should be undertaken . This investment could be anything, it may be in the form of additional languages, grooming skills, dramatics, music and many more because as one  grows  in life, the need to keep reinventing oneself is far more paramount.” 
President, Council of the ICSI said that , “with this investment which is essentially long term one will gain market appreciation over time. Like companies which practise good governance gain in their value overtime and provide long-term gains in the form of dividends and price-appreciation, you too govern yourself well. For that remember one thing-you will be known in the society by what you are as a person and what you can deliver and this calls for strict adherence to ethical values”.


President, ICSI also added that ,”The need to remain credible is the most critical challenge today as your words hold out for you, your employers, your clients etc. Being credible is nothing else but doing what you say and saying what you do. The ability to distinguish between right and wrong has always been the most challenging assignment in life which is never taught in the classrooms


CS Anil Murarka,Council member,ICSI in his address said that profession of Company Secretary is achieving new heights. He said That the world  is become globalised, there is increased regulation and newer process are helping in the growth of CS profession. The.new companies bill will also help in the thrust of profession. He said the profession will be what the members  make of it. He also said today for us to be a developed economy the leadership, should be in the hands of young people and this youngsters should have a constant urge to excel.


CS Ashok Pareek,Council Member,ICSI in his welcome address. He advised  the students that they should  take care of performance in whatever they  do and the wealth would take care of itself.  He reiterated the fact that, “the path to success is through hard work and perseverance and not through accumulation of wealth. He also stated that , “There are instances of overnight success stories, which ultimately doomed as the persons involved chased the wealth and lost track of their real success. “To Excel in the right sense is chasing your professional / personal goals and letting the results take care of themselves, making the process of achievement supreme and making the result irrelevant. He advised the students to perfect the process of performance and not to allow the pressure of the result to choke your performance”.



CS Deepak Khaitan , Chairman, EIRC of ICSI in his address defined the term “Convocation” which in Latin means 'calling together' and means a group of people formally assembled for a special purpose. He added in common parlance convocation is an ceremony to award degrees to students and honorary graduates. He then congratulated the new members and wished them luck in their professional career and said that they should uphold the values and ideals which is expected from them as members of this prestigious profession.


CS M S Sahoo, Secretary ICSI  making concluding remarks and proposing a vote of thanks said that, “it is our attitude that determines the altitude to which we could reach. Similarly, it is our attitude and not the aptitude that could determine the altitude. Attitude determines the lifestyle of a person and it develops when perception is followed by projection, planning and actioning. Our attitude towards life can have a significant positive impact on shaping our quality of life”. He also expressed that , “a positive (creative) attitude on the other hand, is open, passionate, focused, and has many other attributes that leads you in the direction of creative success. A positive and proactive attitude always leads to success. It is thus, important to develop a positive attitude.. He emphasized that clearly defined goals, positive attitude and faith in your capabilities, supported by an untiring commitment and toil could create wonders”
