JD Birla Institute Celebrates Annual Day, 2013

J.D. Birla Institute (JDBI) celebrated its Annual Day 2013 at the Science City Convention Centre. Industrialist-Educationist Mr S K Birla and Mrs S K Birla and the Chief Guest of the function, Mr Dhritiman Chatterjee, eminent actor, film maker and theatre personality, were present along with the students of JDBI.
A mix of colourful dance, music and plays by the graduating students of the Institute and a Fashion Show, by the students of fashion designing department, marked the celebrations which highlighted the muti-faceted skills and talents of the students.
JDBI events encourage the students to know, enjoy and feel proud of our Indian culture. The Institute also lays emphasis on value education through courses like Human Development which maps the lifespan perspectives, needs and rehabilitation of differently-abled people and special children, community service, psychological counselling and others.
A unique fashion show by the students of the fashion designing wing of JDBI was held at the Annual Day function. “We value our students ideas and feel proud to see them actively participating in events that showcase their talents and also put into practice their ideas. The fashion show, organized by the students, imparts vital entrepreneurial skills like showcasing of products, branding and marketing,” said Dr Deepali Singhee, Principal, JDBI.
“Besides the conventional degree courses, J.D. Birla Institute has carved out a niche and reputation for providing special job-oriented courses like Textile Science, Clothing & Fashion Studies, Food Science & Nutrition Management, Interior Designing, Human Development and Home Science etc., which are in vogue and much sought after by the students. Our out-of-the-box thinking on balancing the educational and career needs of students has kept us ahead of the curve,” Dr Singhee, said.
About the J.D. Birla Institute:
J.D. Birla Institute, which is a private un-aided college, was established in June 1962 when late Smt. Sushila Devi Birla established a college for girls to provide scientific education to young women from Kolkata's conservative family. Over the 50 glorious years, JDBI has grown with the needs and demands of the changing times. The Institute has made rapid strides over the decades to emerge as a centre of excellence. The name was changed to J.D. Birla Institute in 2002 with the launch of a satellite campus to house the co-educational Department of Management. Today the Institute, which has an `A' grade from National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), provides graduate, post-graduate degrees under affiliation to Jadavpur University and several short term courses.
