Bridgestone Corporation (Bridgestone) today announced that it has been identified as a global leader for its actions and strategies to manage carbon and climate change across its supply chain for a second time. Bridgestone has been awarded a position on the supplier engagement leader board, receiving the highest rating A in Supplier Engagement Rating, by CDP,* for the second consecutive year. Bridgestone also has been identified as a global leader in sustainable water management with inclusion in the CDP’s Water A List.

As part of its global CSR commitment, “Our Way to Serve,” Bridgestone is working to help ensure a healthy environment for current and future generations. The Bridgestone Group has set a long-term environmental vision for the year 2050 and beyond. This vision aims to strike a Group-wide balance between business operations and environmental protection.

The Group is reducing CO2 emissions throughout all areas of its products’ lifecycles from raw material procurement to manufacturing, distribution, use and disposal or recycling in order to contribute to the creation of a sustainable society. These efforts led to its inclusion in the supplier engagement leader board with the highest rating A.

The Supplier Engagement Rating is an initiative that CDP launched for the first time in 2017. More than 3,300 companies were assessed by CDP on their supply-chain engagement strategies.  Bridgestone was among 58 companies that received the highest rating A and was awarded a position on the supplier engagement leader board in recognition of its actions to reduce emissions and lower climate-related risks in the supply chain in the past reporting year.

*CDP, formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project, is an international nongovernmental organization based in the United Kingdom that collects and discloses environmental information related to companies and cities. Acting as a representative for institutional investors across the globe, CDP encourages major companies worldwide to disclose information regarding climate change, greenhouse gas emissions, water management, and other environmental concerns and also evaluates such companies.

Elaborating further he informed that handling a 30 kg cylinder is difficult for any man or a woman, as per medical science it is not advisable to pick more than 23 kgs weight as it may damage the spine. 2 and 5 kg composite gas cylinders will be extremely convenient for students, hostels, hospitals, picnic, and outdoor parties. These cylinders will be made available to consumers immediately without any formalities and we will ensure immediate refills as well.

The world has seen many technological changes in recent years. From black and white TV to LED TV, from Ambassador car to the latest BMW car, from dial phones to smart phones the world has moved on to newer variety but since last 50 years there have been no changes in the design of gas cylinders. The policy reflects a company commitment to procurement programming that drives action to realize long-term environmental, social and economic benefits. The policy is applicable to all purchased materials and services, as well as all suppliers globally.

·         Sustainable Procurement Practices incorporating environmentally responsible procurement, such as compliance with environmental laws and regulations, respect for human rights, water use, land use and conservation, health, safety, disaster prevention and resilience.

During the development of the final policy, Bridgestone gained insights from external stakeholders, including international consultants, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), materials suppliers, natural rubber farmers, and key customers to ensure the policy is thorough, reflects industry standards and best practices, and is supported by an effective implementation and communication plan.
Available in 12 languages, the policy will be implemented, governed and enforced regionally. As an immediate first step, Bridgestone will prioritize working closely with its employees, suppliers and customers and other industry experts to implement the policy. Over the next 18 months, Bridgestone will work with its suppliers and partners to ensure that they have received the policy and understand it. Following acknowledgment of the policy, suppliers will then receive a self-assessment questionnaire. Bridgestone is currently developing an additional supplier assessment for the traceability of natural rubber and will be working to partner with the industry and other qualified experts to help support ongoing monitoring of supplier compliance.
Bridgestone is committed to working with additional external stakeholders, including universities, industry associations and NGOs, to continually review feedback which will be valuable for subsequent enhancements and revisions to the policy.

The 3rd Annual Convocation of J. D. Birla Institute (JDBI) was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, His Excellency, Shri Keshari Nath Tripathi, Honorable Governor of West Bengal, and the Chancellor, Jadavpur University, at a gala function held at Vidya Mandir here today. At the Convocation, 468 students received their degrees at the Convocation. Also,10 meritorious students, who were toppers in their respective fields, were given University Gold Medals by the Governor in the presence of Mrs Sumangala Birla, Chairperson Governing Body of JDBI, Dr Deepali Singhee, Principal JDBI and other dignitaries, faculty members, staff and students.

Congratulating the students of JDBI, His Excellency, Shri Keshari Nath Tripathi, said, “Learning is a continuous process and will continue throughout your whole life.
