First ever Annual Day of J.D. Birla Institute (Department of management) was celebrated at Vidhya Mandir Auditorium. Mr. Randhir Kumar, IAS, Excise Commissioner, West Bengal, was the Chief Guest for the occasion and Dr. Dev Narayan Sarkar, Associate Director, PepsiCo India, was the Guest of Honour.
Appreciations motivate students to strive higher everytime they jump. This annual day was celebrated to appreciate the hard work of every child in the previous year in various pursuits. The evening started by invoking the blessings of God by lighting the auspicious Lamp, followed by Saraswati Vandhana. Dr. J.N Mukhopadhyaya, Director of J.D. Birla institute and the esteemed guests extended their warm welcome to the gathering. They shared their words of wisdom and enlightened the minds of the studentsThe chief guest ended his speech with a very famous Hindi quote khudi ko kar buland itna ke har taqdeer se phele, khuda bande se khud pooche bata teri raza kya hai!”
The evening saw distributions of awards and certificates of merit to the students for their exemplary performance in different academic and non- academic pursuits. The last batch, present pass outs, and the current batches were acknowledged for their hard efforts. The ideas, innovations, creativity and immense dedications of students were recognized by college.
Apart from the felicitations, the evening also boasted an entertaining cultural show by the first and second year students. The student members of different clubs of the department were given their club badges and awards were distributed for different competitionsThe president of Invictus18 Atom Bhawsinghka informed the gathering about the upcoming management fest. He briefed the crowd about how Invictus18 is going to be different from the previous years. The evening ended with senior faculty member, Dr. Manjishtha Maitras formal vote of thanks followed by the National Anthem.

Maritime unions oppose govt move to sell DCI

Kolkata: The ongoing impasse between a listed public sector company, Dredging Corporation of India (DCI) and its employees is likely to escalate into a major standoff between Indian seafarers and Government of India as Mumbai based leading maritime unions, National Union of Seafarers of India (NUSI) and The Maritime Union of India (MUI) are planning a nationwide agitation, primarily to opposite Government of Indias move to privatize DCI a profit-making enterprise.
Mr Abdulgani Serang, General Secretary, NUSI, said: “Since its inception in 1976, DCI continues to serve Indian ports at low margins and also executes dredging contracts on behalf of Indian Navy. DCI is thus privy to vital and sensitive defense related information. Privatizing profit-making DCI is hence not in the interest of nations interest. NUSI will launch a nationwide agitation of Indian seafarers if Government of India fails to accept our legitimate demand.”
Mr Amar Singh Thakur, General Secretary, MUI, said: “Liquidating a majority stake of DCI in favor of private players will be a huge blow to the countrys exchequer as dredging charges might shoot up phenomenally. Also, vital marine installations at Indian ports will be exposed to foreign workforce employed for dredging activities by private players. Moreover, privatization of DCI will demoralize Indian marine workforce keen on serving the countrys buoyant dredging sector. Current workforce of DCI might loose their jobs, and unemployment in the sector may rise.”
DCI is a Miniratnapublic sector company engaged in the business of dredging. The main seaports in which DCI does business are Vishakhapatnam Port,Haldia, KANDLA, Cochin Port and Ennore Port.

The occasion was organized exclusively for the children to enjoy this festival not only through fun and frolic but also through some creative activities. The event was organized at iLEAD new campus with activities for children of various age groupsThere was a Special Soft Toy corner for children between 6 months 4 years, with 150 plus toys for mothers and children to enjoySome of the rides and activities were Bungee jumping, Bull Ride, Portrait Making, Pat-a-cake corner - Make your own cupcakes, Mocktail and Popsicle making corner for moms and children to try and Family picture against Chroma backgroundSome of the exciting fun sessions and corners were -Magic Show, Shopping festival, Gingerbread and Elves and Bollywood Dance. There were also free rides and activities like Santas Train/Giant Wheel for Kids/Merry Go Round and Free activities like Pottery Making, Styling for Children, Free Gifts for All Children and much more.   The life size manger and the special Christmas Storytelling Session with citys best children storyteller Mamta Agarwal was one of the major attractions of the event. The children of the city await the next iLEAD Christmas carnival with massive eagerness.
